Popcorn, Indiana GIVEAWAY! Ends 4/30

Snack Mania continues with a review & giveaway of POPCORN!! I recently contacted Popcorn, Indiana and they agreed to sponsor a review. However, the fun doesn't stop there! They also offered to sponsor a giveaway for my readers. How great is that?! You can assist me in my quest for Snack Mania by sharing your thoughts about this product once you receive your popcorn.

I have to admit, I'm loving this theme! I've had a chance to indulge in a few wonderful new products. Of course, my thighs don't agree with my theme idea, lol. I love that Popcorn, Indiana's popcorn has been certified as a whole grain snack, this does help me feel better about enjoying all of these snacks!

Whole grains are considered to be nutritionally superior to refined grains because they are richer in dietary fiber, antioxi- dants, vitamins and minerals. The greater dietary fiber may be as much as four times that found in refined grains, and has been shown to reduce the incidence of some forms of cancer, digestive system maladies, gum and coronary heart disease, obesity and diabetes. It can also result in significant cardio- vascular benefits, according to many health studies.
Popcorn, Indiana's Original Kettle Corn and our new Sea Salt Popcorn are both certified as a whole grain snack, as evidenced by their official USDA whole grain icon. If you eat just two servings of our new Sea Salt Popcorn, which has 22 grams of whole grains per serving (for a total of 44 grams) you will have consumed nearly your entire daily USDA recommended allowance of 48 grams of whole grain. Which is a pretty healthy way to snack. Not to mention yummy.

The story of Popcorn, Indiana began when Warren Struhl and Richard Demb, seeking inspiration for a gourmet popcorn business they wanted to start, traveled to meet Dale Humphrey in Mr. Humphrey's hometown of, yes, Popcorn, Indiana, a tiny farming community just 20 miles southwest of Bloomington. A fourth-generation Popcorn, Indiana resident and a passionate popcorn lover, Dale took Mr. Struhl & Mr. Demb on a brief tour, introducing them to the lush, rolling terrain of Lawrence County, driving down such lanes as Popcorn Road and Popcorn Church Road (which leads, not surprisingly, to Popcorn Christian Church), before returning to Mr. Humphrey's farm.

As the three men sat in the living room, Warren & Richard learned that according to local legend, Popcorn, Indiana's name actually stems from an insult. A family visiting from Vincennes, a town located on Indiana's border with Illinois, boasted of the corn they grew while deriding their host area's crop as "popcorn." Fiercely proud of the corn they grew, the town took the insult as a compliment and quickly adopted the moniker as their own. "We used to have a wheat mill, post office and a general store," Mr. Humphrey told his visitors, "But that was all before I was born."

Reinvigorated with the image of a town so pure, simple, down to earth, and so committed to corn, Warren & Richard returned to New York City and opened their first Popcorn, Indiana store in 2002. Using only premium grade popcorn, grown specifically for popping, Warren Struhl & Richard Demb began churning out kettle corn, a colonial recipe for popcorn that combines both sugar and salt, for a subtly sweet-and-salty taste that has endeared it to many. Popcorn, Indiana's Authentic Kettle Corn has been joined by additional flavors, (six in all), which have been inspired by the kitchens of Dale and Thomas Popcorn.

Unfortunately, in 2007, Dale Humphrey passed away, but his legacy lives on. The company is now known as Dale and Thomas Popcorn (the Dale should be obvious; the Thomas comes from Isiah, the former Indiana University and NBA star, who in 2005 approached the company as a "self-proclaimed, passionate popcorn lover", became so enamored of our crunchy confections he asked to become an investor), but it still produces the cheerful red bags of deliciousness that bear the Popcorn, Indiana name. Every mouthful is rich with the spirit of the farms and wide-open spaces of Dale Humphrey's hometown, one so proud to grow "popcorn" it became its name. So take a visit to Popcorn, Indiana, stay a while, and experience the all-natural ingredients and rich flavor of our lovingly crafted popcorn.

Popcorn, Indiana comes in a variety of flavors:

Original Kettle Corn - A lightly sweet popcorn with a slight touch of salt, this popcorn was enough to satisfy my cravings for both a sweet & salty snack. (As many of you have read, I love to mix my snacks!) This popcorn was fresh as if you had just popped it yourself and delicious!! If any changes were to be made, I think I would add a touch more sugar to the popcorn. However, I'd continue to eat the kettle corn just the way it is!

Aged White Cheddar - I happen to be a big fan of cheese flavored popcorn and this was the first bag I ripped open. As you could imagine, I fell in love! Fresh & creamy, I think this is my favorite flavor so far. This is definitely a popcorn that I'd enjoy having as a regular snack.

Movie theater popcorn - My children and I welcome a popcorn we can enjoy while watching a movie or "just because". Original theater popcorn has an incredible butter flavor unlike the microwave (yes...sadly, we do buy microwaved popcorn) popcorn in the grocery store. Remember the drive-in theater? I could swear this reminds me of that popcorn!

Smoked Cheddar Cheese Kettle Corn

Aged cheddar cheese. Specially selected herbs. The finest corngrown specifically for popping.
